This is a good question to ask any roofing contractor after you have had your roof inspected. There are many factors to consider when considering a roofing repair or a roofing replacement. First off, make sure you are extremely comfortable with the roofing contractor that you have decided to do business with. Here are a few things to consider when you are facing this decision.
- How old is the roof on your house? A newer roof holds up very well for the first 8-10 years. However, no homeowners roof is guaranteed to last through nature’s wonderful storms, especially here in Texas. Here are a few things to think about when choosing your next roofing shingles. A 25-year 3-tab composition shingle starts to look “weathered” in about 10-12 years. The normal 30 year composition roofing shingle start looking bad in about 15-20 years. Keep in mind, insurance does not pay for “old” they pay for weather created damage such as hail and wind storms.
- I cannot stress this enough. Make sure the company you hired is competent and has a good reputation. You’re about to be doing business with them and handing over a large amount of money. Make sure you do your homework. Do they have referrals that you can reach out to? Do they have reviews on google or yelp?
- What type of damage is on your roof, and how bad is it? The roofing company that has performed the inspections should provide you with pictures of the damage and give you their opinion on what they think you should do from there. This is why #2 is so important.
